Week 2: Day 1 of the OITC OCTOBER 7 2012

Day One

Hi everyone! So, having enjoyed a week of cultural immersion last week, this week, we start our sports & surf lifeguard training. Time to get to work!

This morning we were introduced to Lifeguard theory and the role of the lifeguard. This included learning about emergency rescue procedures such as Emergency action plans (EAP) and Normal operating procedure (NOP).

In the afternoon, the group learned how to put together a series of knots which are used in the ropes course for rock climbing, abseiling and zip line such as figure 8, double figure 8, reef, square, bow line and stopper knots. Some of us found these knots pretty tricky to remember so we’re all gonna have to practice at home before we’re put in charge of someones ropes!

Really looking forward to the rest of the week, starting with a Surf at Tullan tomorrow morning! 🙂
