Safety First!

Today we spent the morning perfecting our CPR techniques for adult, child and baby (wet & dry) using pocket masks to protect ourselves from the mannequins, CPR for a casualty with a spinal injury and we also acted out a 2 person CPR situation. Cathal saved Carlos the baby a few times and there was competitive life saving done too. The group also took it in turns to access an accident scene and turn a casualty over into the recovery position safely.

In the afternoon, we did some first aid training with Rachelle. We were shown how to carry out a secondary survey on a casualty and were told the difference between a sign and a symptom. We went through the types of bandages; triangular, roller and dressing. Then in pairs, we practiced putting on a number of bandages including an arm sling, an elevated arm sling and a support bandage for a broken leg and knee. Overall, we covered a lot of important aspects of CPR and first aid today which will help us a lot for our beach lifeguard training.

We’re all really looking forward to getting in the water again in the morning for a day of surf!

Happy Halloween! 🙂
